Where are the best places to spend three extra days in Europe using the rail system Before going to Venice?
We Fell in love with Italy while visiting Rome, Florence, Venice, Genoa & A Few years ago and want to do Something Different for this trip. We Used the train as our Means to travel so we got to see a lot of the countryside. This Time, We Have A 12 day Greek Departing Isle cruise out of Venice. Our plane lays over in Zurich, so we Thought we might get off the plane There INSTEAD and jump on a train and see Some of Switzerland (and maybe part of Germany) Then meander down Our Way to Italy – Perhaps Spending only a night or maybe at Staying Each destination on the Amalfi coast. We like to travel fast and see as much as possible! We Have A total of three nights. Any 4-5 star hotels, points of interest, cities to visit or recommended itineraries Certainly would be appreciate. We plan on Purchasing a three-country train pass.
Three days isn't enough time for the Amalfi Coast if you're going to Venice in three days from Zurich by train. It's over 10 hours just to get from Zurich to Naples, Then You Need to hop on the Circumvesuviana train to get to Sorrento. From There, it's a bus or boat to go weitere Along the coast. Naples to Venice Is Another 6.5 hr trip. Zurich is a nice place to spend a day. From There You Could take the train to Milan via Verona pretty easily. A day in Verona and a day around Lake Garda is a good choice if you Have not been there before. Alternatively, Could you take the train from Zurich to Munich. If you do That, You Can Easily go to Fussen on the train and see Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles for a day, spend a day in Munich Itself and catch the train to Venice From There. You are Probably Better off just buying individual tickets Rather Than getting a Eurail pass, Especially if you book the individual tickets in advance. There's a discounted fare from Zurich to Munich for only 39 euro, for example, But the discounted rates Fairly Tend to sell out quickly. You Would Have to pay an extra supplement on the train with a Eurail pass. Most of the faster trains require an extra fee When You Have a Eurail pass and you May Need To Have A prebooked reservation for Some of the trains anyway. The Eurail pass Functions only as a hop-on, hop-off option When you use the regional trains Slower That May require a number of train changes file to travel long distances.
