Top 3 places to visit in Mexico City

During the 2 years I was living and working in Mexico, spent most of my time in Mexico City. Mexico City is a big city with a population of 111,211,789 (est. July 2009), according to the World Fact Book. And while there are many places to see, while there are too many to write in this blog. So, here are some that really caught my attention and must be on your list if your planning to visit.

1. Coyoacan, Coyoacan neighborhood is a very bohemian, hippie, the colonial era noted for its beautiful downtown. It has cobblestone streets, mansions, and various of the most interesting museums. This was also the home of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Coyoacan is a hippie, with a very popular market every weekend in the downtown (Centro de Coyoacán). At night, during the Christmas season is an incredible slide show of beautiful holiday themed art that is projected on the outside wall of the church in the center of the city.

2. Colonia Condesa-This area of Mexico City is an area of higher quality and is well known for some of the most modern in the city of cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. The neighborhood is also known for its parks and restored Art Deco buildings. From luxury restaurants, off-beat shopping, art galleries, fashion shows and nightclubs, you can find almost everything here.

3. Polanco: Similar in some respects to Condesa, Polanco is also a very elegant area of Mexico City. Here in Polanco has a street named Mazaryk. This street is like Rodeo Dr. Beverly Hills, so be prepared to spend some money because Mazaryk is home to some of the best designers in the world. Apart from the purchase, there is also Hard Rock Cafe, the W Hotel, and the Museum of Mexico City in the vicinity. Almost everything is within walking distance, people are very friendly, and the area is very safe.

I spent much time in these three neighborhoods in Mexico and always felt safe and never had problems. And definitely stand out with blond hair and blue eyes. However, when traveling in a foreign country should always be aware of your surroundings and take necessary precautions. In a later post I will talk about safety and general what to do and do while traveling in Mexico.

Some places I'd like to mention in passing, just because they spend too much time there. Son, San Angel and the Historical Center. San Angel is very nice and has a large market on weekends and Historical Center has an incredible museum where I saw a wonderful exhibition Diego Rivera, and not to mention the architecture. Oh! I forgot.

Mexico City was built on the ruins of ancient city Tenochtitlan, which was built on water and was the seat of the Aztec empire. If you go to the Centre can see a part of the ruins and a scale model of how the empire looked in the 15th century. I thought this was very cold and I was happy to see it.

So that's it, do not hesitate to send any questions or comments, until then … Happy Travels!
